Paul Celan. Poeta. Ocalony. Żyd (projekt okładki)

Paul Celan. Poeta. Ocalony. Żyd (projekt okładki)

“Paul Celan. Poet. Survivor. Jew” / a literary meeting and promotion for the book by John Felstiner

Date: 15.09.2010
Event location: Szafa Club
from: 16:00 to: 17:30
Event free of charge

John Felstiner’s book (pub. Austeria) and its protagonists will be the subject of a discussion by authorities on Celan’s work; a documentary film on the poet will also be shown. Celan, the son of Rumanian Jews, was born in Bukovina in 1920. He survived the Holocaust, which was to exert a decisive impact on his life and poetry. His work was originally based on the achievements of German and French surrealism, but the author’s wartime experiences turned out to be central. The meeting’s key figure will be Ryszard Krynicki, an outstanding poet and translator of Celan’s work.
