Hanoch Levin “Schitz” / a performance by BARAKAH Theater in Krakow

A world-famous play by one of Israel’s most outstanding playwrights, Hanoch Levin (1943–99), in Poland known primarily as the author of “Krum.” “Schitz” speaks of the dark side of the human psyche, of initiation into love, and coming of age. Nowicka has created a performance that treads a fine line between a musical and a modern opera, with a multi-layered poetic. “Schitz” deals with topics that are seemingly prosaic, pushing negative social aspects into the foreground, but it never satisfies itself with simple statements, it rather spurs the viewer toward social and cultural reflection, which is one of the main tasks of BARAKAH Theater.
