Ewa Bloom-Kwiatkowska “The Saint Vitus Dance”

This performance by a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź (1986), a painter, sculptress and stage designer, draws from the medieval “dance epidemic,” during which – for reasons that remain mysterious – the residents of many places in Europe, regardless of their health, origins, and nationhood, took part in dancing processions lasting several days. The dance swept them up against their wills, possessed them, led to extreme exhaustion and was utterly inexplicable, but its finale left the dancers feeling cleansed of their cares, fears, and their anger. It spared no one, and united one and all.
